MUSEE DE VENCE - FONDATION EMILE HUGUES
The Vence Museum occupies the Château de Villeneuve founded by the eponymous lords in the 17th century. This castle is an old medieval house. It uses the wall of the ramparts and the Tower of Peyra built in the 13th century. In 1966, Émile Hugues, former Mayor of Vence, bequeathed the monument to the city with the will that it be used for the cultural and artistic development of Vence. This historic space became, in 1992, the Art Centre of the Château de Villeneuve, Fondation Émile Hugues. Since 2014, the Art Centre has become the Vence Museum. It presents artists who have lived or stayed in Vence, while developing an axis towards the different movements of Contemporary Art. In 2017, the Museum is integrated into the Cultural Authority of Vence, and actively participates in the influence of culture in Vence.
