The chapel of the Rosary, also known as "Chapelle Matisse", in Vence, is sacred ground completely designed and decorated by Henri Matisse, an artistic Marvel considered by the artist him - even as his masterpiece.
It is a monument of worldwide sacred art!
From 1948 to 1951, Matisse develops plans of the building and all the details of its decoration: stained glass, ceramic, stalls, giant clams, objects of worship, vestments... For the first time, a painter made a monument in its entirety, from architecture to furniture and stained glass. The first stone of the chapel was laid in 1949. The inauguration and consecration to our Lady of the Rosary, made in 1951.

From the outside, the building is very simple in appearance.
Is that once inside, the chapel reveals its splendor thanks to the reflection of the stained glass on the floor in marble, and the three wall panels representing the stations of the cross, the Virgin and child and Saint Dominique. A gallery also reveals the scenes of its construction in exponent of sketches and two models of the Chapel, the an as it is today, and the other as it was imagined Matisse at the beginning of the project.
Place of worship of the Dominican, the chapel can be visited every day except Friday and Sunday (day dedicated to the office at 10: 00). The time of a visit, the sisters welcome you to make you discover this sacred place.
