It was inaugurated ten years after the death of the artist fell in love with Nice . The Matisse Museum has the largest collection of his works: paintings and gouaches, engravings, drawings, and almost all of the sculptures.
Installed in the Villa of arenas, superb remains Genoese of the 17th century, it is adjacent to the arena, and Park made up of hundreds of olive trees and large lawns, it's a place for family walks.
From the Museum's permanent collection is interesting because it presents the artistic evolution of Matisse, advances and research in the field of color and graphics, first paintings from 1890 to gouache cut the end of his life. It has very many paintings and cut-out paintings, drawings, engravings, and almost all of the sculptures. you will find also some books illustrated with photographs, and objects that once belonged to the painter; Silkscreen prints, tapestries, ceramics, stained glass and documents round out what constitutes the largest collection of the artist.
Each year, temporary exhibitions we can go a little bit further in the knowledge of this great artist, and bring new insights when dealing with a part of his life or his works.
