The history of the Palace of Festivals and the Congress in Cannes is intimately linked to that of the Film Festival , which began in 1946. In order to accommodate this flagship event, a first structure was built in 1949 on the Croisette boulevard, site of the current JW Marriott. Faced with the growing success of the Festival and the emergence of the tourism business with including the first editions of the MIPTV in 1965, the city of Cannes decided to build a new Palace in 1979, on the location of the Municipal Casino. The building, designed by the architects Bennett & Druet, opened in December 1982 and will grow in 1999 with the construction of the Riviera area, then in 2006 the "Rotunda Lérins" a heightening of the Rotunda Riviera offering amazing views of the sea. Lately, has been made the modernization and the embellishment of the Grand Auditorium Louis Lumière, and the canopy which is the antechamber, and the majestic double staircase of a milky whiteness which offers the spectacle of its monumental curves from the canopy and the rise of the markets!
